About our scanner
Seen traffic from us? Here’s why.
VortexByte Exposure checks websites and servers for security issues, but only for owners who have proven they control them.

What the scanner does
Exposure is a security service for small businesses. It looks at a business from the outside, the way an attacker or a cyber insurer would, and tells the owner what to fix. It makes two kinds of checks:
- Passive checks read public DNS records and certificate transparency logs, and load a handful of web pages (for example the home page and
/.well-known/files) with the user agent above. - Active checks (paid plans, coming soon) will come from a published IP address listed above: a scan of the 1,000 most common TCP ports, a TLS check, and a curated set of checks for known critical and high-severity vulnerabilities. We never run denial-of-service, brute-force or fuzzing tests.
Who it scans
We only scan systems whose owners asked us to:
- The customer must prove they control the domain, with a DNS record or a file on the website. We check it again before every scan.
- Active checks run only against hosts the customer has explicitly confirmed they own or are authorised to test, and never against shared hosting, CDN or SaaS infrastructure.
- Every authorisation is logged with who gave it and when.
How gently it scans
- At most 300 packets per second, and only one scan of any host at a time.
- Scheduled scans run at most weekly per customer domain.
- Tool and check versions are pinned and reviewed before each update.
Report a problem or opt out
If you believe we scanned a system we shouldn’t have, or you want your IP range excluded, email legal@vortexbyte.com with the IP address, the time (with time zone) and what you saw. We reply within one business day, and we can show the authorisation behind any scan to the system’s owner.
